Packing Tips

More than anything else, packing is essential for a successful move. A full service moving company can take care of this for you; or you can follow our packing guide for an enjoyable moving experience. Pick a room and we will explain how to best pack what you're likely to find there.

Garage/Hobby Room/Storage

Garages and storage sheds take the longest to prepare for moving as they are filled with odd-shaped, heavy or sharp items which require special care when it comes to packing.

Home Office/Den

Label cables and cords so you know where they go and pack them in the same box as the equipment they go with.

Bedroom/Nursery/Bathroom

Start packing your bedrooms for moving by tackling less-used guest rooms first.

Living/Family/Guest

From lamps to electronics, your main living area requires a little extra preparation before moving day.

Dining Room

The dining room will have your most fragile items. Each item will need to be carefully wrapped and placed in special moving cartons.

Kitchen/Laundry Room

Your kitchen can be moved early by packing less-used serving dishes, seasonal items and small appliances.

Moving Appliances

It is important to clean and dry large appliances in order to avoid the buildup of mildew and mold.

Non-transportable Items

You should transport valuable items with you rather than on the truck.

Types of Boxes

Regardless of what you are trying to pack, North American Van Lines has the box for you. Our boxes come in many different sizes and strengths to ensure a safe and efficient moving experience.
